No one likes being stressed. No one likes that uncomfortable feeling and we all try to find ways to relieve stress fast.

I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s easy to know when I’m stressed. It’s not just that feeling of uncontrollable overwhelm that you get, but there might be smaller signs that indicated you’re not really at ease.

Sometimes this might even happen in normal, not particularly chaotic moments. I know I’m stressed when my shoulders tense up, I start to cringe my jaw and have a hard time staying focused.

Stress looks different for everyone, we all experience it differently

No matter how stress evolves in your body, it’s important to find ways to relieve it. Not all stress is bad, but chronic stress can have tremendous negative impacts on our brain and overall health.

When we’re stressed, our brain releases toxic hormones that damage our most important brain functions and hence, it impairs our mental performance.

So what can you do to relieve stress, especially when you’re going through a busy period with your business? Keep on reading for 3 ways to relieve stress fast.

3 Ways To Relieve Stress Fast

Exercise

When we’re stressed, our bodies are flooded with serotonin, the stress hormone, and our brains crave hormones that make us feel good again.

Exercise prompts your body to release all those feel-good hormones you need during times of distress. The endorphins, serotonin, and norepinephrine that are being released help reduce your stress levels whilst enhancing your mood.

Exercise even helps to release your muscles that you’re subconsciously tensing, for me that would definitely be my shoulders.

The best about it, it not only helps to relieve stress. It will give you a boost of energy and improve your sleep quality, both of which also help fight that stress and anxiety.

Even a quick burst of movement will do the job. Go for a quick run, do 50 jumping jacks or follow a yoga flow on YouTube.

Breathe

Yep! It’s that simple. Did you know that most of the time we’re not even breathing how we’re supposed to?

The way we tend to breathe nowadays doesn’t involve the diaphragm, our main breathing muscle.

We got used to breathing more shallowly than we’re supposed to. It’s more breathing into the chest rather than the belly where we’d use the diaphragm.

Diaphragmatic breathing not only helps your body use oxygen more efficiently, but it also calms you down and relieves stress.

The best thing, it can be done anywhere. During moments of distress, take a few minutes to practice it.

Relax and make sure you’re sitting in a comfortable position.

Inhale slowly through your mouth.

Pull the air in deeply by breathing all the way into your abdomen.

Focus on allowing your ribs to expand to the sides creating space for the diaphragm to move.

When you’ve inhaled as much air as you comfortably can, pause, then exhale slowly and steadily through your mouth.

Pause momentarily before inhaling again to repeat.

Do that for a couple of minutes and with each out-breath, try to relax even further.

Meditate

Meditation is about finding peace and quiet in your mind. It’s about being in the present moment to enter a deep state of relaxation. Hence, it’s a perfect tool to help you relieve stress.

There exists a common misconception that meditation only works when your mind is completely empty. You might think that you can’t meditate because your mind won’t stop working.

Here’s the thing, that’s exactly what is supposed to happen.

It’s normal that thoughts keep racing through your mind as you meditate.

When this happens simply acknowledge your thoughts and let go of them.

It’s important to remember that the more you meditate the easier it gets to calm your thoughts.

With mediation, you can achieve great mental and emotional clarity.

Try to make a daily habit out of it to experience its full benefits.

Start practicing it today and you’ll soon feel the benefits in all areas of your life.
